Occupying Unemployment emerged during a period of crisis and personal unemployment. Over time, I created fifty drawings of people who, like myself, occupied public space without engaging in economic activity. Each drawing is dated, located, and linked to a QR code that reveals a photograph of the place where it was made.
At the same time, I placed another QR code in those same urban locations, allowing passersby to see the drawing —creating a dialogue between the street and the gallery, between the site of creation and the site of display. The series reflects on time, inactivity, and presence within a system that measures value through work and consumption.
